Swans Backed To Stifle Suns Game Plan

Renowned for their stingy defence, online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has opened a market on whether or not the Sydney Swans can restrict the Gold Coast Suns to their lowest score of the season.

Keeping the Suns under their season low of 34 points does look unlikely though, with the Swans priced at $7.00 to achieve the feat. $1.08 is on offer should punters think the Suns will score 34 points or more.

“The Suns have been on the up over the last few weeks, and while the Swans are well known for their defence, the market suggests it’ll be tough for them to restrict the Suns to less than six goals,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Sportsbet.com.au has also opened a market on whether or not Suns star Gary Ablett will tally more possessions than any Swans players, with ‘Yes’ priced at $1.85 and ‘No’ at $1.90.

The Swans are the $1.05 favourite in head-to-head to betting, with the Suns priced at $11. The line gives the Suns a 50.5 point head start, paying $1.92.

Olympic Flag Betting Suspended After Plunge

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has suspended betting on who will be Australia’s flag bearer at the London 2012 opening ceremony after a flood of money roared in for Lauren Jackson late today.

“We’ll have to wait and see if this is just a rumour but based on some punters trying to pay off their mortgages this afternoon by backing Jackson the cat appears to be out of the bag,” sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

Jackson opened at $31 in sportsbet.com.au’s market, was $4.50 at the start of today and was backed further into $1.50 before betting was suspended.

Punters Warm To Parra Under New Coach

Online bookmaker Sportsbet  has opened a market on how many wins new Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur will tally for the remainder of the season, with just one win the $2.10 favourite.

Next in the market is two wins ($2.40), while no wins or three wins share the third line of betting at $6.50.

“We can’t see things turning around for the Eels, especially with news that star fullback Jarryd Hayne has been ruled out for the rest of the season with injury,” Sportsbet’s Ben Hawes said.

The big outsiders in the market are five wins ($101) or six wins ($251) from the remaining six games.

Sportsbet.com.au paid out on the Eels to collect the wooden spoon after just four rounds of the season, and now with just six games left, they’re into $1.30 to run last.

Leisel Jones Medal Hope In Olympic Betting

Leisel Jones is on the third line of betting with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to win gold in the women’s 100m breaststroke, priced at $7.00 to take out the event.

Ahead of Jones in the market is $1.33 favourite Rebecca Soni, with Breeja Larson next at $5.00, however, the Australian is given some chance of gold by punters.

“We’ve had more bets on Leisel Jones to win the women’s 100 metre breaststroke event than anyone else listed in the market,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Australia is also on the third line of betting for the women’s 100m individual medley, priced as a $13 chance for gold, with the USA ($1.11) and China ($7.00) the top two in betting.

TItans Backed In NRL Top 8 Betting

Punters with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au think the Titans recent run of form will continue unabated, with the Gold Coast side the best backed team to make the NRL top eight.

The Titans have attracted 18 percent of money wagered on the market so far, with most of the interest coming in the last month, including one bet of $1,200 when the Titans were priced as a $10 chance last week.

Despite being flogged by Canberra last round, punters also like Cronulla’s hopes of earning a finals berth, with the Sharks ($1.33) attracting 16 percent of money, while the Raiders ($4.00) themselves are the next best backed side with 14 percent.

“The betting suggests the punters like what they’ve seen from the Titans and Raiders over the last month, and that they expect their good form to continue,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

In premiership betting, the Bulldogs are now outright favourite for the first time this season, firming into $4.25, ahead of the Storm ($4.50), while the Rabbitohs have moved onto the third line betting at $6.00.

Black Caviar Retirement Firms As Favourite

Connections have said they’ll decide on Black Caviar’s future in the next fortnight, but punters think we won’t see the champion mare grace the racetrack again, backing her to be retired from $1.45 into $1.35 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.

Black Caviar racing again has eased from $2.70 out to $3.15.

“While we all want to see her go around at least one more time, the betting suggests her racing days could be over,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Liesel Jones Back In To Flag Fav

Leisel Jones is now the outright favourite with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to be the Australian team flag bearer at the London Olympics, firming from $5.50 into $2.50.

Despite firming from $26, it seems as though it’s not a done deal for Jones, with cyclist Anna Meares firming from $9.00 into $4.00 overnight.

Punters continued to steer clear of Natalie Cook, who has drifted from being the $2.00 favourite out to $3.00, while Drew Ginn has eased from $2.60 to $3.00 after declaring he’s not interested in the honour.

“There’s been a hive of activity on the market in the last three days, and while we aren’t sure who will be awarded the honour, the betting suggests it’s likely to be a female,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

After firming from $13 into $9.00 yesterday, Lauren Jackson has eased back out to $13, while Stuart O’Grady ($13), Andrew Hoy ($21), Cadel Evans ($26) and Jamie Dwyer ($26) have all drifted in betting.

Danny Green Long Odds On To Beat Santiago

Danny Green is the raging $1.10 favourite with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au for tomorrow’s bout against Danny ‘The Bronx Bomber’ Santiago.

Santiago is the $6.50 outsider for the fight.

“The market suggests Danny Green will add to his 31 career wins in comfortable fashion,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

Lauren Jackson Heavily Backed In Olympic Flag Betting

Leisel Jones continues to firm with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to be the Australian team flag bearer at the London Olympics, tightening from $6.00 into $5.50, but the biggest mover in betting has been basketball star Lauren Jackson.

Jackson has firmed from $13 into $9.00 after a surge in interest for the three-time silver medalist overnight.

Natalie Cook remains favourite at $2.00, with Drew Ginn, who’s drifted from $2.50 out to $2.60, next in the market.

“There’s now been more bets for Leisel Jones to be the Australian team flag bearer than for Natalie Cook,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said. “At one stage yesterday, wagers were coming in 6 to 1 in favour of Jones.”

“Punter support for Cook has really cooled, with all of the interest over the last 48 hours coming for the other female candidates in the market.”

Leisel Jones Firms In Olympic Flag Betting

Swimmer Leisel Jones has firmed from $8.00 into $6.00 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au to be the Australian team flag bearer at the London Olympics, but it’s Natalie Cook who remains the favourite.

Cook, however, is drifting in the market, easing from $1.80 out to $2.00 as a result of punter support for Jones. Jones, who was opened as a $3.75 chance, had got out to as much as $26, before firming into the third line of betting.

Drew Ginn remains second in the market, but like Cook, has drifted, out to $2.50 from $2.10.

Jones and cyclist Anna Meares, who’s now into $9.00 from $10, are the only athletes to firm in betting in the last 24 hours.

“From the moment Natalie Cook said she’ll sit out the opening ceremony unless a female carries the flag, money started to come in for both Leisel Jones and Anna Meares, but not for Cook,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“The punters are definitely warming to Nick Green picking a female for the role.”
